nikki haley and mitch mcconnell don't think that the federal government should help individual statues avoid actual bankruptcy because hey freeloaders, freedom ain't free, or something. this despite, of course, mcconnell and haley's home states, kentucky and south carolina, being two of the most federally dependent states in the union.

besides lacking logic (calling the pandemic "a rainy day"), by making these public claims, they're forfeiting any right to federal assistance should their state also entirely break down. operating in perpetual debt to the federal government is fine. obtaining temporary assistance during the worst public health crisis the civilized world has ever seen? that's freeloading.
